What is Clinical Nutrition

Clinical nutrition focuses on the application of nutrition principles to optimise health, and to prevent or manage diseases and health conditions.

Clinical nutrition utilises an evidence-based, holistic and personalised approach to treat the whole body, therefore it is not a one size fits all approach.

Clinical Nutritionists work alongside people to help them live their healthiest lives.

Clinical nutritionists use their knowledge of the human body, and combined with detailed case taking, work to uncover the root causes of any conditions you may be experiencing. They understand that organs and body parts do not work in isolation, and that the body systems are interconnected, meaning that an issue in one body system may be causing symptoms to appear in another.

Clinical nutritionists conduct physical examinations to help identify what is going on in your body. They can order and review functional and pathology tests to inform your treatment plan.

After a detailed health history assessment, clinical nutritionists develop personalised treatment plans that are scaffolded over time. This may include dietary modifications, lifestyle modifications and the prescription of practitioner-only supplements.

What to expect

Initial Consultation:

Prior to your first appointment, you will be required to fill out a detailed intake form to provide insight into your current health needs and your goals.
During your initial consultation (up to 60 minutes), a thorough case history is taken. You will be asked for more details about any health conditions you have, your family health history, your lifestyle, your diet, any medications or supplements you are taking, any recent blood test results, and questions about 2-3 of your body systems.
You will have the opportunity to discuss your priorities and goals.
Relevant physical examinations will be conducted (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, tongue analysis, nail analysis, etc).
An initial personalised treatment plan will be developed for you, taking into consideration your needs. You will be emailed a copy of your treatment plan with any supporting educational material.

Return Consultations:

Depending on what you are seeking support with, your first return consultation (up to 30 minutes) will be 2-4 weeks after your initial consultation.
Follow-up questions will be asked, and a review of your treatment plan will be conducted to see if any tweaks need to be made, or if additional dietary and lifestyle modifications or supplements can be recommended.
Return consultations continue for as long as you need and will become more spaced out until you no longer need support.
The number of appointments will depend on any conditions you have, how long you have had them for, and your health goals.
You will be provided with the knowledge and skill set to be able to understand and manage your own health.
From there on, you may require occasional check ins to help keep you on track, or to renew supplement prescriptions.
