Leading Myotherapists
The term ‘Myotherapy’ comes from the Greek word ‘myo’ means ‘muscle’. Uprise Heath provides patients with myotherapy treatment with a branch of manual medicine focusing on assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal pain. Musculoskeletal pain can be divided into three categories: myofascial pain arising from trauma or muscle contracture; neuropathic pain deriving from the nervous system; and articular pain that originates from the joints.
Myotherapists use a variety of modalities such as manual therapies, myofascial dry needling, myofascial cupping, prescriptive exercises, joint mobilisation and pain management techniques. The assessment is not only based on anatomy and pathology but also includes kinesiology & biomechanics, neuroscience motor control, and neuropsychology to an integrated therapeutic approach.
Dry Needling
Dry Needling is very similar to the practice of Acupuncture, a small solid needle is placed into the skin and tissues to help specifically target and resolve trigger points. A dull pain may be felt immediately after dry needling at the point of insertion, however, will subside.
Joint Mobilisation
Joint mobilisation is used to modulate pain and treat joint dysfunctions that limit ROM by specifically addressing altered joint mechanics. It is a passive movement technique applied to a spinal or peripheral joint in which an oscillatory movement is performed within the control of the patient.
Exercise Prescription
Exercise prescription refers to the specific plan of fitness-related activities that are designed for a specified purpose. Rehabilitate the injured part by using effectively therapeutic exercises enhance recovery, increase capacity of tissues to deal with greater demand placed upon them, or integrate the injured area into holistic movement (Successful and long term rehabilitation will depend largely on how well the client moves on a holistic level).
Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is a traditional Chinese and Middle Eastern practice that people use to treat a variety of conditions. It involves placing cups at certain points on a person’s skin and creates suction in the cups which may facilitate healing with blood flow and reduce pain.
