Things We Treat

Neck Pain

Stiffness, restricted movement and referred pain through the neck and shoulders.

Neck pain describes discomfort arising from the joints, discs, muscles and nerves of the cervical spine. It can be localised to the neck, or refer into the head, shoulder blade or down the arm.

Most neck pain is mechanical, meaning it relates to how the region moves and how it has been loaded — long hours at a desk, poor sleep positions, stress-related muscle tension or a sudden strain.

Common symptoms

  • Stiffness or reduced range of motion when turning your head
  • Aching through the base of the skull or between the shoulder blades
  • Muscle tightness and tenderness
  • Headaches originating from the neck
  • Pins and needles or referred pain into the arm

Common causes

  • Prolonged desk and screen postures
  • Sleeping position or an unsuitable pillow
  • Sudden strain, whiplash or sporting impact
  • Degenerative change in the cervical joints or discs
  • Stress-related muscular tension

How we can help

  • Our practitioners begin with a detailed history and physical examination to understand which structures are involved and what has been driving the problem.
  • Care may combine chiropractic, remedial massage and dry needling with practical advice on desk set-up, sleep position and loading, along with exercises to build tolerance in the area.

Frequently asked questions

When should I be concerned about neck pain?
Seek prompt medical review for neck pain following significant trauma, or if it comes with progressive weakness, numbness, unexplained weight loss, fever or issues with balance or coordination.
Do I need a referral to book?
No referral is needed to see our chiropractors, massage therapists or Chinese medicine practitioners. You can book online at Richmond or Bundoora, or call our team if you're unsure who to see.
Can I claim my appointment on private health?
If your extras cover the service, you can claim on the spot using HICAPS at either clinic and pay only the gap.
