Things We Treat
Shoulder Pain
Rotator cuff pain, impingement and stiffness affecting overhead movement and sleep.
The shoulder trades stability for mobility, relying heavily on the rotator cuff and surrounding muscles for control. That makes it vulnerable to overload, particularly with overhead or repetitive work.
Shoulder pain can arise from the tendons, the joint itself, the surrounding bursa, or be referred from the neck — which is why assessment looks at the whole region.
Common symptoms
- Pain with reaching overhead or behind your back
- Difficulty sleeping on the affected side
- Weakness when lifting or carrying
- Catching or pinching through certain ranges
- Stiffness that builds over weeks or months
Common causes
- Rotator cuff tendinopathy or overload
- Subacromial bursitis and impingement
- Rapid increases in gym or throwing volume
- Referred pain from the neck
- Previous injury with incomplete rehabilitation
How we can help
- We test the shoulder, scapula and neck to work out which tissues are sensitive and what is driving them.
- Care combines hands-on treatment to reduce symptoms with a progressive loading program for the rotator cuff and surrounding musculature. Shockwave therapy may be considered at Bundoora for calcific tendinopathy.
Treatments we may use
- chiropractic
- remedial-massage
- radial-shockwave-therapy
- sports-injuries
Frequently asked questions
- Why does my shoulder hurt more at night?
- Lying on the shoulder compresses irritated tendons and the bursa, and there are fewer distractions from the pain. It's a very common pattern with rotator cuff-related shoulder pain.
- Do I need to stop training?
- Usually not entirely. Most people modify rather than stop — your practitioner will help you find what you can keep doing while symptoms settle.
- Can I claim my appointment on private health?
- If your extras cover the service, you can claim on the spot using HICAPS at either clinic and pay only the gap.
